Abstract
The frontier of AI technology at work is shifting towards the deployment of agents that are positioned as `teammates' and embedded within collaborative team environments. In this paper we present one of the first in situ studies of an agentic teammate in a real-world enterprise setting. Through interviews with users of the agent we reveal how workers interact with and negotiate the presence of an entirely new organizational actor. Our study contributes novel empirical insights to inform the design of the coming human-agent ecosystem of work to ensure the transition happens with human intentionality and for human flourishing.
