Abstract
From algorithms to outcomes: using AI to decode disease heterogeneity and tailor care to the individual In this talk, I will explore how we can move from machine intelligence to true health intelligence by developing AI systems that understand the complexity and diversity of real patient journeys. I will discuss recent advances in machine learning for modelling disease heterogeneity, uncovering subtypes, and predicting individualized trajectories across conditions such as respiratory and mental health. Drawing on over 15 years of research in personalized healthcare and my team’s work at GSK.ai, I will show how integrating data-driven and hypothesis-driven approaches can improve clinical decision-making, accelerate drug development, and ultimately support more precise and compassionate patient care.
