Accounts:

How do I change my email address?

Login to your NIPS Profile at https://nips.cc/Profile/ and update your email address.

I have two different nips.cc accounts, can you merge them?

Yes. Please email nips.cc support and we will merge your accounts. Please tell us which address you'd like to keep as your primary one.

Why I am no longer receiving email from nips.cc?

Double-check that you have elected to receive emails from nips.cc by editing your profile information. There is a checkbox that says "Contact me by Email".

If you have elected to receive emails but are still not, it's likely that at some point a message sent by nips.cc was bounced either by a MAILER DAEMON or by a vacation program. Ensure that your vacation program is not auto-replying if the mail header "Auto-Submitted" is set to anything other than "no" (see RFC 3834 for more information). Our system will not send email to somebody who is bouncing messages back. To reset a potential "bounced" flag on nips.cc, simply edit your profile information and save it, even if you change nothing. You should start receiving nips.cc mail again.

Buses:

How do I get a seat on a bus?

When available (in September), tickets will be sold by http://www.destination-tahoe.com. A round trip ticket from Reno to Tahoe is $52.00. You must book by November 19, 2012 for a guaranteed seat.

Meals:

Are any meals covered in the registration price?

Continental Breakfast will be served in the foyer of the Harvey's ballroom. The following meals are covered in the registration fee:

  1. Monday reception during the Poster Session, December 3, 18:30 – 20:30
  2. Farewell Reception at Workshops, December 8, 20:00

Papers:

Note: Please use the same email address for your CMT account as you do on nips.cc, even though they are separate accounts. This helps us link you to your papers.

I already created an account, but the system says I do not have an account.

nips.cc and the paper submission/review websites are completely separate websites with separate accounts. We request you use the same email address for each because it makes it easier for us to link accepted papers to nips.cc accounts. Be sure that you created an account on the same site you are attempting to log in to.

When I login I do not see all my events or papers, where are they?

There are 2 likely candidates:

  1. If you have used a second email address on nips.cc or CMT, the missing info may have been linked to your other email address. You can try logging in with the other email address to verify that and/or email nips.cc support and we will merge your accounts.
  2. There may have been another problem linking the data to your account. Please report the problem to the appropriate organizing committee member, or contact us.

How can I change the list of authors for my paper, or add a new author?

Log into the CMT site and navigate to the Author Console. For each paper submitted you will see a link Quick Edit: Paper Details. Click on this which will allow you to modify the authors list. Remember to submit your changes at the bottom of the page.

How can I update my affiliation and the email address used by CMT?

You can update your affiliation (and other data) on the CMT site by clicking on the Edit Contact Information link at the top right, making the necessary modifications and then clicking on the update button.

How can I update the title or keywords for my paper?

Log into the CMT site and navigate to the Author Console. For each paper submitted you will see a link Quick Edit: Paper Details. Click on this which will allow you to modify the title and primary/secondary keywords. Remember to submit your changes at the bottom of the page.

How can I access reviews for my paper?

  1. Login to the NIPS CMT site. Your login email address is the one by which you received the email from CMT.
  2. From the author console you will see an entry for each paper, and the text "Author Feedback: Add | View Reviews". Click on "View Reviews" to bring them up.

I've forgotten my CMT password. How do I login?

Click on "Reset your password" and then enter your login email address. A URL will be sent to you by the CMT system; follow the instructions to set your password. Further help is available via CMT support cmt@microsoft.com.

What size are NIPS Poster Boards at the Conference?

The poster boards are 8 ft. wide by 4ft. tall (~2.4m x 1.2m). This is "landscape" style, as opposed to the "portrait" style used in Granada at NIPS 2011.

Registration:

Is it possible to access someone else's registration record?

Yes, if you have the email address and password of their account.

How do I add or remove registration items?

How do I cancel my registraiton?

Please visit https://nips.cc/Register/ and view your registration. The "Change Registration" link allows you to add or remove items from your registration at any time up until the conference.

If you had previously paid for your registration using a credit card, a refund will be issued automatically when you remove an item from your registration.

If the full refund deadline has passed and you empty your registration, you will get a full refund minus the late cancelation fee. See our Cancelation Policy

If you add items to your registration, you will have the option of paying immediately with a credit card, otherwise you will need to send the additional amount using our regular offline payment options.

Can I transfer part of my registration to someone else?

No. You must use our normal change procedure (see above) to remove the unwanted items from one registration and add them to the second.

About Google Wallet (Google Checkout)

I have pending transactions which did not complete, can you delete them?

Unused pending transactions are deleted automatically. You may proceed with an additional transaction no matter how many unused pending transactions you have. In short, if you have created unused pending transactions it is safe to ignore them.

Why is my Google Checkout order displaying a 'Customer review in progress' status?

I have already paid, so why is my transaction still marked as pending?

In general, Google Checkout completes credit card processing within four to six hours. For certain orders posing a higher potential risk to you, Google specialists will perform more extensive fraud detection checks. In these rare cases, reviews may require more time. 99% of transactions are processed within 24 hours.

As soon as your Google Checkout transaction clears, you will receive a nips.cc email with a receipt for your registration.

Why was my credit card payment declined?

Regrettably there is little we can do to help with these problems. When the issuing bank declines a transaction they do not provide an explanation. For security reasons, they will not answer questions from anyone other than the account holder.

If you are using an institutional or government credit card you may need to contact the responsible department to authorize your charge. In previous years some registrants have run into problems with cards which are restricted to a very limited set of merchants or require advance notice on transactions over a certain amount.

How is my credit card information protected?

Your information is protected by TLS encryption between your browser and Google Checkout. We never even handle your credit card details - we leave that to Google because they are the experts. We do store a partial number which we use for payment and refund verification.

Room Sharing:

I am looking for a roommate at the Conference.

NIPS is unable to provide assistance with room sharing.

Tutorials Registration:

Does the fee for the NIPS Tutorials include all the tutorials or is the fee per tutorial?

The fee includes all Tutorials. The hotel is separate.

Workshop Registration:

Does the Workshop registration fee include all the Workshops?

The Workshop registration fee includes all Workshops. The hotel is separate.

Wireless:

Is wireless available at the NIPS Conference?

Yes, there is free wireless in the meeting areas. Wireless in your hotel room is available at the normal hotel prices.

Visitors Visa:

I believe I need an invitation letter, with an original signature to obtain a visitors visa to the United States.

NIPS is unable to provide signed invitation letters to its individual participants unless they are invited Conference or Tutorial speakers. There is a general invitation letter which you will have the opportunity to print when after you pay for your registration. This letter, along with your registration receipt, demonstrates that you have paid to attend the Conference and/or the post-Conference Workshops. If you need proof of your participation as a presenter, the "My Account" (profile) page will list your presentations. If your presentations do not show up in your profile page, send and email to support@nips.cc.
