NIPS Changelog: Changes from Previous Conferences

These are the high level changes from NIPS version 2010 to NIPS version 2011.

Venue Changes

Not only are we changing countries from Canada to Spain, but the Tutorials and Conference Sessions will not be held in a hotel, but instead at the Palacio de Congresos de Granada (Congress Center). All NIPS hotels are walking distance from the Congress Center; please plan for a walking commute.

The Workshops will be held in two hotels in Sierra Nevada, a ski village outside of Granada.

Schedule:

The NIPS 2011 schedule will adapt to Spanish hours; lunch breaks are 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Plan to have dinner after 8:00 pm.

Breakfast:

NIPS will not provide breakfast at the conference or workshops but all NIPS hotels include breakfast in the room rate. The breakfasts are substantial and you will need them to make it to the 2:00 lunch.

Bus Transportation:

To take a bus, buy a ticket with your conference registration.

To board a bus you must sign up for a timeslot here.

From the Conference to Workshops

There will be 3 different bus routes on Thursday afternoon from the conference venue:

  1. From the conference venue to the Alhambra and workshops venue.
  2. From the conference venue to the Alhambra and back to the conference venue.
  3. From the conference venue directly to the workshops venue.

Returning from the Workshops

  1. One bus leaves Sierra Nevada Saturday night
  2. Several buses leave throughout Sunday and are timed to arrive at the Granada airport before flights leave.

Posters:

Whereas the posters in Vancouver were "landscape" style, the poster boards in Spain are "portrait" style: 90 cm wide x 190 cm high (approx 35x74 inches).

Sunday Night Registration:

CHANGED: Registration will be held at the Granada Congress Center from 4:00 - 8:00 on Sunday, December 11.

NIPS Fieldtrips:

After the main conference NIPS is offering a private evening tour of the Alhambra. Buses will leave from the Congress Center for the tour and if continuing on to the workshops in Sierra Nevada, your bus will take you following the tour of the Alhambra. If you are not going on to Sierra Nevada, your bus will return you to the Conference venue.

Two hundred free tickets to the Parque de las Ciencias (Science Park) will be offered to NIPS attendees. The Science Park is within walking distance of the Congress Center. See: http://www.parqueciencias.com There is a special M C Esher exhibit at this time.
